Prakash Gogoi was a speaker at the 6th International Colloquium on Working Equids held in India last November. People from 34 countries and 14 universities and more than a dozen organizations participated. Prakash said, "I got an opportunity to speak on euthanasia during the meeting as my paper tries to review the trend of euthanasia of working equines in the Brooke India operation. The session was chaired by David Jones, former chairperson of Brooke-UK and co-chaired by Peter Sandoe, expert in animal ethics. Another speaker of the session was Dr. Helen Becky Whay from Bristol University, UK. I also shared with the gathering about the social-religious scenario of India, where people are very sensitive about a process like euthanasia of animals."
Prakash's two papers are posted on the LAR website on the Safety page. Way to go, Prakash!

Cindy Cross-Greenia says, "There was a horse rescue this weekend in Colchester in which a mare was spooked and went over an embankment and into a brook, Colchester Rescue responded and did a wonderful job of rescuing this poor horse. It has been two years since our equipment has been used in a rescue and both horses were saved, if just one horse is saved in two years and one owner is saved from that horrible loss I personally feel that all the the time and energy and money that is expended is worth it."

There is evidence that they struggled and fought to get out, and that the few who were successful didn't get far before collapsing and dying just outside of the barn.

Barry Manilow's song, "ONE VOICE".
We've all felt that we're "Just one voice, singing in the darkness" as we promote LAR and animal welfare. Keep up the good work, troops!!!
Just One Voice
Singing in the darkness
All it takes is One Voice
Singing so they hear what's on your mind
And when you look around you'll find
There's more than
One Voice
Singing in the darkness
Joining with your One Voice
Each and every note another octave
Hands are joined and tears unlocked
If only
One Voice
Would start it on its own
We need just One Voice
Facing the unknown
And then that One Voice
Would never be alone
It takes that One Voice
Just One Voice
Singing in the darkness
All it takes is One Voice
Shout it out and let it ring
Just One Voice
It takes that One Voice
And everyone will sing
Music and Lyrics by Barry Manilow from the album of the same name.
